I'm not even sure how it all began...
We were at Superstore doing our typical $250 shop, and Olivia was just fine. Yes, she had had a late night the evening before (was in bed at 9:30) and yes, she had woken up a few times during the night, but that's a typical summer evening this year. She seemed pretty normal during our shop. Things took a turn for the worse when we got in the checkout line. I don't even know what started it! One minute she was fine, and the next minute she was going hysterical! I tried to bribe her by offering her a candy if she stopped crying, but she wouldn't stop crying so I wouldn't give her the candy. The whole entire time we are loading groceries onto the conveyor built and having them scanned and then loading them into the buggy again she is crying and screaming, "Mom, don't talk to me! Mom, don't talk to me!" It's hilarious because I wasn't even talking to her anymore. I'm pretty sure the whole entire store could hear her. I wasn't going to give in and give her a candy until she stopped crying, so I just let her throw a fit. I had one young Mom with her less-than-one-year old daughter ask if I needed any help (I politely declined) and then shortly after I had another Mom come up to me and say she also had four kids and that I "was doing a great job and was being so patient and calm." And I was calm! I wasn't embarrassed because she was making the fool of herself. She was still upset the whole car ride home so I had to pull over and threaten to take her out of the car, and then she finally calmed down a bit.
Such a crazy little girl. She had a much-needed on-time bedtime tonight!
