So, before time gets away from me, here is their "eight" post.
Matthew
At eight years old, Matthew weighs 50.8 lb and is 49 3/4" tall. When matched up against his siblings and cousins he is short, but in school he is actually in the taller half of the class. He's still very finely built, just like Jon was as a boy. He is comfortably in size 8 clothes and size 1 shoes.
It used to be a bit of a battle to get Matthew to eat (because he didn't want to eat but we wanted him to get the calories), but these past six months Matthew has been eating quite well. He is quite proud when he asks for seconds, which we are more than willing to give him! He still has to be reminded to finish his milk after every meal though!
His favourite foods are soup, kiwis, and Chinese food. He no longer likes to drink chocolate milk because "it's not as healthy as normal milk."
Matthew finished this soccer season, and won't be playing again in the fall. We are hoping to have him play some drop-in ball hockey with the school after spring break. He is signed up to run the Mini Sun-Run on April 14, so I am looking forward to hearing about his experience since he seems to love running.
He still eats, sleeps, and breathes Mario. Almost literally. He bought a Mario bedding set and fleece blanket from his birthday money from my parents, so he is sleeping in Mario. He loves to read about Mario, and loves watching YouTube videos of others playing different Mario levels. His dream is to own a Nintendo Switch so that he can play the new Mario games :).
Matthew is usually in a really good mood. When he is in an extremely good mood, he thinks he knows everything and will look to me with an "I'm the oldest and smartest and what I said was right" look, waiting for me to confirm what he has said. It's hilarious! It's these moods where he is more than willing to help or show Nathan and Olivia whatever it is that they need help with.
Matthew still excels with spelling and math. The calculations he can perform in his head are amazing. He is currently fascinated with multiplication. I need to remember to show him how to figure it out on paper!
Matthew gets along well with all of the kids in his class. He was becoming good friends with a boy in his class that has some struggles/issues, but after being repeatedly pinched on the top of his hand and his upper thigh during chapel, he has stopped talking about that boy as much. It's probably for the best since this kid was not the best influence on him.

Kayla
At eight years old, Kayla weighs 61.2 lb and is 52 3/16" tall. She is usually one of the tallest girls in her class. She is quickly outgrowing size 8 clothes and size 2 shoes.
Kayla loves to read. When she is in the middle of a good book, all she does is read. We gave her (and Matthew) the first Harry Potter book for their birthday, and she finished the whole thing in four days. A day and a half after starting the second book (which she bought with her birthday money), she is half done.
Kayla also does really well at playing basketball. She has complete two seasons with the AthElite league, and each season she has earned an All-Star for her team, recognizing her effort, growth, and skill. We've noticed that the coaches push her harder than a lot of the other girls, and initially she was in tears over this, but we've assured her that it's because they see potential in her and know she is capable of learning and improving. That seems to have helped because she takes their constructive criticism well now.
She continues to be the easiest child in the world to parent. She is really great at helping with Olivia, especially when Olivia is being stubborn and refusing to do what I say - Kayla is always there to help convince Olivia that what I'm asking is the best.
Kayla's favourite foods are BLTs, quesadillas, and lattes. She loves to eat what I love to eat, so that makes cooking for her easy!
She has an obsession with Ty Beanie Boos. I think, at last count, she has 79! Jon came through on his promise to her and built her a shelf to store them all on. Thank goodness! Her bed was being overtaken by them!
