Ultrasound #3 (June 7)
I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not, but I had to go for a third ultrasound shortly after my detailed ultrasound (ultrasound #2) because they couldn't see the heart chambers. It took a while for me to get the results of this one because they wouldn't let me see them until I had another doctor's appointment, which I just had yesterday. Here's the results from June 7 (when I was 22 weeks 2 days):
I guess I've also failed to mention that I know what the gender of Baby Struik is. I'm sure many of you are thinking, "What?!?! I thought you didn't want to find out?!?!". To which my response is, "I didn't." At my last appointment (4 weeks ago), Dr. Ng walked into the examination room and said, "Oh, so you're having a XXXX!" I was quite disappointed and slightly depressed that I knew, as I was hoping that this one would be a surprise. Oh well, we're still keeping it a surprise from everyone else! I didn't want to mention that I knew what the gender was until it was confirmed on this third ultrasound.

Update on Potty Training
Kayla has been amazing. She is 100% poop-trained...she tells me when she has to go and then we run to the bathroom and she does poop on the potty. For pee-training her...so long as I have her on the potty every 1.5 hours or so we're 100% trained. I can't trust her to tell me when she has to go because she doesn't like to take the time to sit on the potty or "tit" (toilet) because she thinks she's missing out on something. I've trusted her once this week when she responded "no" to my questioning her if she had to go and then she peed a minute later. Since then, I just make her go when I think she needs to go - no questions asked. Kayla even has started having her naps in 'bed girl underwear' because she wakes up dry. I'm not quite confident to do it overnight yet, although 95% of the time she wakes up dry. I already feel that my diaper use is WAY down only having one child in diapers - I can't wait until Matthew is trained...hopefully before Baby Struik arrives!

24 Weeks
I can't believe it's 24 weeks already. That means only 15 weeks of work left - but who's counting? The weeks seem to fly by.
This has been a big week for our family - we bought a house! The subjects come off (hopefully) on Friday, and then we get possession next Saturday. It has been a crazy last few days trying to get everything organized with our realtor and our finances. Turns out it gets a little complicated getting a mortgage when your husband's employment status with the Surrey School District is "laid off as of July 1". Sigh - oh the joys of being a new teacher! This is a big move for Baby Struik - s/he gets her/his own bedroom! The original plan, if we were still in this house, was for Baby Struik to start out in our bedroom (which Jon was not a fan of at all), and then move to the room with Matthew and Kayla - but that won't be the case anymore! Anyways, crazy busy over here. Doesn't help that I'm going camping this afternoon and won't be back until Sunday.
I feel huge. I forgot to weigh myself this morning, but that's probably a good thing. Probably doesn't help that we brought in Moxie's for lunch at work, and so I ate an entire turkey club and half a white chocolate brownie with ice cream. I'm so full. Blah. I'm really struggling with how my shirts fit this pregnancy - it feels like they are all too small already. How did I wear them my entire pregnancy last time? I think it helped that I wore "comfy clothes" as soon as I got home from work, so my attire was a pair of loose pants and an over-sized t-shirt. Now, I'm trying to stay in my regular clothes all day long.
Baby Struik is fairly active, although unlike my pregnancy with Matthew and Kayla, most of her/his movements are in my pelvic region. With Matthew and Kayla I felt kicking all over my stomach. It will be interesting to see if that will still happen with baby Struik, or if that was just a 'twin thing'.
Anyways, nothing else is new. I'm hoping Jon gets home before we leave so that he can take a 24-week picture for me.

Potty Training - Kayla - Days 5-6
Day 5 was quite a success. We went to No Frills in the morning in big-girl underwear, and successfully made it through the morning and early afternoon with no accidents. And then came the post-nap pee. Kayla woke up on the wrong side of the bed, because after she woke up I tried to put her on the potty (as per our routine) so that she could pee and then go back into big-girl underwear. Well, she refused to sit on the potty, and she refused to wear her underwear. She wanted to wear her diaper. I didn't give in to her, so she was left standing in the middle of the kitchen half-naked, crying and screaming out of anger. And in the middle of her meltdown, she peed. Boy did I get mad at her. And she knew I was mad. And I made her say sorry and she put her underwear on without refusing. And was fine the rest of the night.
Day 6 was a complete success. We went to Noah's Ark this morning in big-girl underwear, and even went pee on the toilet there about half-way through (she couldn't go before we had left). And for the rest of the day, there were no accidents. Woot woot!
Tomorrow we plan to go out to Abbotsford to visit my cousin Jenine and her boys, in our big-girl underwear. Hopefully we can stay accident-free again!

House Hunting Sucks
I'm tired of looking on MLS and trying to decide what's more important: newer house or larger property - because it seems that in our price range you just can't have both. We need for the perfect house to pop up with the perfect balance of newness/lot size. Hopefully sooner rather than later! Sigh. We haven't been actively looking for very long, but I'm tired of looking at houses only to find that they're not what you had hoped they would be. Thank goodness we're not being kicked out of our current place because I think I would be stressed to the max then. I just want someone to choose a house for me and say "you have to live here" because I am NOT good at making decisions when it comes to large sums of money.
Potty Training - Kayla - Days 2 - 4
Day 2 was much like day 1: 4 accidents.
Day 3 was amazing. She wore underwear for the morning until 9:30 (did pee on the potty two or three times), and then I put a disposable on her for while we were at Surrey Christian watching Jon play ball hockey. I've realized I like disposables for potty training because it's easy to see if/how much they've peed, without necessarily having to touch the diaper itself. We went pee on the toilet in the high school twice, and so she stayed dry the entire time we were there (until 1pm). We quickly came home, we had lunch, she did pee, and we put a diaper back on her again because we had to go look at a house at 2pm. When we got back at 3:30 she was still dry, and did pee on the potty again! We played outside for the afternoon and had once incident where I had to run her inside to use the potty - but it turned out to be just a fart. :) She did have one accident just before dinner, but that was because she had pooed and it was not a nice one...and so I'm not sure how much warning her body gave her before she actually went. The rest of the night went smoothly with regular pees on the potty, and she woke up dry again this morning.
Day 4 is going good so far! We had church in the morning so back into a disposable she went as I didn't quite feel comfortable leaving her in her underwear yet. She did pee on the potty a couple times before church, and then when we got to the church we tried on the toilet but she couldn't go. As soon as I picked her up from the nursery she went, and then stayed dry until we got home from cake and coffee at my grandparents, when she went on the potty again. So far, so good!

Potty Training - Kayla - Day 1
June 6th came quicker than I expected. I've been saying for the last couple of months that I would start potty training Kayla on June 6. It seemed like it would be the best time because my Mom is in Ontario for the week so I'm not working for the week and would have less out-of-the-house activities planned. So, here we are. June 6. And I officially started potty training Kayla today. Or should I say...potty training myself today. I've realized that the success of this training depends on how closely I watch/monitor her and the clock.
Today was definitely a success. We started the morning off with a pee on the potty as soon as she woke up (her overnight diaper practically dry), and then into 'big girl underwear' she went. We watched about 10 minutes of cartoons, and then had breakfast, and then had another pee on the potty about an hour after that. "This is going to be easy" were my initial thoughts. And then the morning continued...and the clock ticked ever so slowly. I feel like I asked her every 10 minutes, "Do you have to go pee Kayla?" She must be so sick of that question. Our first 'accident' happened outside around 10:30, while I was distracted from my nagging by the constant fighting between Matthew and Kayla over who go to hold the hose (side note: it sometimes sucks to always have to share and take turns!). Kayla was standing there having a meltdown when all of a sudden she peed. At least it was on the grass so there was little clean-up to do :).
We made it through lunch and nap times just fine, with a few more successes and no more accidents. The second accident occurred while I was vacuuming in the house with Matthew (I had promised him I would vacuum after his nap) and Kayla was playing on the deck. I clearly wasn't watching/reminding her, and when I came back to the deck she was standing there in a puddle of pee almost in tears.
Accidents three and four both occurred while I was making dinner (Jon went golfing after school and wouldn't be home until after 8pm in the evening) and thus wasn't concentrating on her either. I did act a little more disappointed/angry with her to help teach her that it was not okay to pee in her underwear, and I think I got my point across. She went pee before we headed next door to see if Auntie Candice was home, and then an hour later while playing in the yard by the vegetable garden she started to cross her legs, and said "yes" when I asked her if she had to pee. I quickly picked her up and ran to the house (the potty was on the patio) while saying over and over "Hold it in! Don't pee in your underwear", and she managed to hold it in! I was pretty impressed with that one. So...now we're on to day 2. Hopefully tomorrow is at least as successful as today was!
